“Dear Friends, once again, greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. How we thank God every day for every one of you. We rejoice with you who are being blessed -- whether a wedding, the birth of a child, or success in some endeavor. Likewise, we are heavy hearted with those of you who have lost a loved one or are going through health or financial problems. It is our joy and privilege to take you all into the throne room!”

This was the greeting from Les in the Oct - Dec 2011 newsletter and it truly epitomizes his sense of joy and obligation to prayerfully uphold so many brothers and sisters in Christ. Likewise, Les and Iris have been so very blessed and strengthened by the many prayers on their behalf over the years. Those prayers are needed more than ever at this very challenging chapter of their lives. As of this writing (mid-September) Iris is currently in a rehab facility after a hospital stay of several weeks, and Les is at home experiencing memory and mobility issues that have deteriorated his condition considerably over the past few months. Iris’ ordeal began in early August with Covid which affected her diabetes and resulted in a loss of kidney function. As she was in a rehab facility receiving dialysis, she fell and reinjured an old break in her lower leg area, causing yet another set-back. At this time, she is receiving rehab and dialysis. Les, at 95, has had his share of health problems. Perhaps the most disheartening for he and his family are the cognitive issues he is experiencing. Of course, these issues are compounded by the fact that his lifelong partner and helper is not able to be with him. The family is leaning on the Lord and trusts His perfect plan. Our request is that you continue to remember Les, Iris, and their family in prayer and that you realize that communication with them will be one way, as they are unable to answer letters and cards, and for some time, have not been taking calls or visitors. We know from the many calls and letters we receive that people have a sincere concern for Les and Iris. However, we also ask that you understand we will only be sharing limited information because we must honor their privacy and dignity.

As has long been the plan, the ministry will continue on with “Through the Bible” airing on TV, radio and through streaming on YouTube, ROKU, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and our websites lesfeldick.com and lesfeldick.org. There are more opportunities to reach people with the Gospel than ever before and the teaching is just as meaningful and needed as ever. If you feel led to support the ministry, you will, as has always been the case, be keeping the program out there and the ministry active.

Something to think about …

Seven times in the New Testament followers of Christ are reminded that we are to “love our neighbors as ourselves.” This is a central tenant of Christianity that according to the Apostle Paul in Romans 13:9 and Galatians 5:14, contains within it the essence of God’s entire moral law. The phrase itself is taken from Leviticus 19:18 which reads: “You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.” Interestingly, the verse prior to this one – Leviticus 19:17 states: “You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him.” That is – the verse that says, “you shall love your neighbor as yourself” proceeds directly from another verse that says, “you shall surely rebuke your neighbor.” From this we can gather that from the standpoint of biblical ethics, the idea of loving your neighbor is logically and necessarily linked to the idea of rebuking your neighbor when they are guilty of wrongdoing. This is perhaps best exemplified by Paul in his rebuke of Peter in Galatians 2:11-14, and by Jesus Himself in His rebuke of James and John in Luke 9:54-56 – to name only a few.

To love someone is not to affirm them in all their words and deeds. Rather, true love is a love that warns and rebukes the other party when necessary. A parent who allows their child to play in a busy street without rebuking them for the sake of their own safety cannot rightly be said to be a very loving parent. Likewise, a skydiver who notices his partner’s parachute is broken and then allows her to jump from the plane without warning her should not be regarded as a true friend. In much the same way, it cannot be said that we are truly loving our neighbors as ourselves unless our love is accompanied by a willingness to administer a Godly rebuke when one is called for.
